SASSA Disability Grant

The Disability Grant provides financial assistance to South African citizens aged 18-59 who have a physical or mental disability that prevents them from working.

Types of Disability Grants

Permanent Disability

For disabilities expected to last more than 12 months or indefinitely

Temporary Disability

For disabilities expected to last between 6 to 12 months, subject to review

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Disability Grant, you must meet the following criteria:

Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
Be between 18 and 59 years of age
Have a disability that renders you unfit to work
Submit medical/assessment report confirming disability
Not be cared for in a state institution
Not receive any other social grant for yourself
Pass the means test (income and asset assessment)

Required Documents

When applying for the Disability Grant, you will need to provide the following documents:

South African ID document (green barcoded ID or Smart ID card)
Medical report from a registered medical practitioner
Proof of residence (utility bill, lease agreement, or affidavit)
Proof of income (if applicable)
Bank account details (for payment)
